Going the distance to change the lives of country kids!

In a fit of madness, I've signed up to cycle 450kms over 3 days in outback NSW, from Bourke to Narromine, on May 15 2025, to raise vital money for country children's mental health, developmental and behavioural services.

I have long been a keen rider, edging ever closer to what can only be described as a middle-aged man in lycra, however to date the furthest I've done in a single ride is about 130km. Day one of this ride is 162km, day two 135km, and day three 160km - this is going to chafe. If it's not a midlife crisis then it will certainly do until one shows up, but at least it's cheaper than a Porsche.

I am a psychiatrist living in the Adelaide Hills, and I work for the SA Rural and Remote Mental Health Service. I deal with the challenges of mental health provision to rural and remote areas on a daily basis, so the cause is something I can really get behind. Currently, children in regional and remote Australia are waiting up to six years to see a specialist or being told there are no services at all.

I’m riding to help raise $750,000 for country kids who are struggling with developmental and mental health needs, to get them access to the critical assessments, services and support they need.
